Parent and Caregiver Day!
As part of our 2025 Health Summit, we welcome adult caregivers of children under 5 with Cerebral Palsy to attend a daylong event during which they will learn new skills to navigate the healthcare system, connect with each other and with experts in the field and learn new decision-making tools for choosing interventions.
In addition, they will attend 2 hours of keynote events by internationally known CP clinicians and researchers. They are welcome to attend the Wine and Appetizer reception after their last event, during which the best science and clinical posters will be presented.
Breakfast, snacks and lunch are included as part of the $50 registration fee.**
The program includes:
- A LIVE edition of the CP Health Coffee Talk Podcast on preventive health: developed by Jennifer Lyman, CPF Resource Content Manager and mother of a young adult with CP this podcast features Jennifer grilling her usual cohost - Dr Nathalie Maitre, also the mother of a young adult with CP - about every day pediatric topics, life and other calamities. Audience members are encouraged to participate in this special podcast.
- Keynote activities – From the main conference program, (see below).
- Wraparound Care for Families - Essentials in practice. This session offers practical tools and guidance for families caring for a young child with or at risk for CP. Presenters will share strategies for navigating community resources and public services, as well as ways to enhance family and caregiver well-being. The session will emphasize the roles of social work, parenting principles unique to young children with CP, and music therapy in supporting both the child and the family. Attendees will have opportunities to connect, reflect, and learn strategies for caring for the entire family.
- Interventions: Critical Thinking and Decision Making. This workshop guides parents through basic principles of understand whether an intervention for their child is safe, effective and worth it. Dr Ostrander, a pediatric neurologist then partners with Jennifer Lyman as they review common alternative interventions, discuss grey areas and share real-life translation of these skills in practice. Audience questions are encouraged!
- Care Navigation: Building and Mapping your Early CP Care Team. This course is intended for parents and caregivers of children under five who have or are at high risk for CP. Care mapping is a visual tool that allows families to organize the many people, systems, and supports involved in their child’s care. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to create a personalized care map to identify service gaps, improve communication with providers, and support their family’s goals. Specifically designed for caregivers of children under five, this session provides tools to help them actively participate in their child’s care planning and coordination.
